Beloved Friends in Faith,

Our hearts are broken again. May 14 was the mass shooting in Buffalo. On May 15 there was a shooting in a Taiwanese church in Laguna Woods, California; one person was killed and five were wounded. This past Tuesday, another school mass shooting in Uvalde, Texas. I think we all feel like Steve Kerr. On Tuesday evening he yelled and pounded the table in front of him: “I am tired. I am so tired of getting up here and offering condolences to the devastated families out there. I’m tired of moments of silence. Enough.” Not a politician, but an NBA coach, at his pre-game press conference he refused to talk about basketball. He was filled with pain, grief, and anger. After speaking he got up and walked out. Like Kerr we’re filled with pain, grief, and anger. Below are several things I’d like to share with you.

–A reflection from Phil Hodson, Conference minister for the South-Central Conference of the UCC (click here for content)

–A prayer from three national officers of the UCC (click here for content)

May we pray like only God can solve the problem and act like only we can solve it.

In Christian love,
Pastor Vern
