John Westerhoff once described discipleship as a tricycle. The front, most important wheel is faith formation - of which worship is a part. Acting and serving in the world and reflecting upon those experiences with others is one of the smaller back wheels. And learning - everything from knowing the "facts" about the Bible to applying the theology of our faith to our daily living is a part of this other back wheel.
At Sylvania United Church of Christ, we believe that all ages must be actively engaged in learning opportunities to be growing in their discipleship and their relationship with God. We do this through Sunday School classes, small group discussions, Bible studies, book studies and retreats. There is something for everyone!
Childcare for our infants and toddlers is available in our nursery each Sunday morning, for adult studies and for special church events. Volunteers from the congregation assist our Nursery Coordinator Janell Butts and Nursery Coordinator Assistant Lori Geisler in this caring ministry for our "little ones."
Vacation Bible School: Join our evening midweek summer Christian Education program for children, youth, and adults. We celebrate the Word of God through story, song, games, dinner, arts & crafts, outreach, and fellowship.
Child Protection Policy: Sylvania United Church of Christ has a written policy concerning the procedures for hired staff and members of the church wishing to volunteer to work with our children and youth in the various programs offered during the year.
